Foreign Assistance for Improving Living Condition in Urban Slums in the Country

EQUALITY INDIA NEWS / A SHAKTI VAHINI RESEARCH INITIATIVE

The total number of projects in Urban Sector assisted by Asian Development Bank & Department for International Development is at Annexure-I & II. As regards World Bank Assistance, there is no Urban Slum Project being implemented in any State at present.

Loan 2293-IND Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project (Supplementary) $80.00 million 01-Jun-07
Kerala Loan 2226-IND Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project $221.20 million 19-Mar-07 This project will upgrade basic infrastructure and services for slum dwellers in five cities.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Kollam and Thrissur. The community infrastructure and services improvement component for slum is $10.0 million.

Rajasthan Urban Sector Development Investment Programe, Project 1 $60.00 million 28-Feb-08 This Project is improving basic urban services and living conditions of about 0.21 million poor people living in notified slums of 15 towns.

Urban Water Supply & Environmental improvement in Madhya Pradesh $181.00 million 17-May-05 Improvements to basic  urban services and living conditions for about 64,000 people living in notified slums of Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior. The slum component is $4.56 million.

Karnataka Loan 2638-IND North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Program, Project 2 $123.00 million 01-Mar-11 The Project is upgrading basic urban facilities for the benefit of poor people living in notified slums of  Ilkal and Shahbab. The slum improvement component is $5.3 million.
